Pelican Satellite Sensor
Pelican satellite constellation was unveiled during a conference on October 12, 2021 by Planet Labs, Inc. The Pelican satellites, a next-generation flock of satellites providing high-resolution satellite imagery with a spatial resolution of 30cm will begin launching by 2023, and be fully operational by 2025 with 32 Satellite sensors. The Pelican satellites will be an upgrade to Planet Lab’s 21 SkySat satellite constellation and will have the capability of up to 30 revisits per day.
The Pelican satellites will be produced in-house and will be designed and upgraded similar to the SkySat satellite constellation that contains 21 satellites. Pelican satellites will provide a Fusion product including SAR data to support a variety of mapping applications for agriculture, humanitarian, environmental monitoring for deforestation, urban development, and natural disaster relief.
