Basic Cruising Standard

Take the next step in your sail education with our Basic Cruising Standard course.

Over three days of hands-on sailing in beautiful BC, you’ll build on the skills from the Start Keelboat Standard and gain the confidence to handle a cruising sailboat.

Whether you’re aiming for a Basic Crew or Basic Cruising certification, our experienced instructor will guide you through these sailing lessons in Vancouver Island, helping you grow as a sailor.

Course Overview

This Sail Canada accredited course teaches you how to safely crew or skipper a 6 to 10-meter sloop-rigged keelboat with either an inboard or outboard motor in moderate sea and wind conditions.

Prerequisite

Session A Start Keelboat Standard.

Note: If you have prior sailing experience but no formal certification, you can challenge the Basic Cruising Standard. However, you must have the skill set covered in the Start Keelboat Standard
